    Disaster Recovery for Collections (Northeastern & Southeastern Regions Workshop)

    Join Kayla Leonard, from the State Archives of North Carolina, for a hands-on disaster recovery workshop. During this workshop, we will discuss the first steps to take after a disaster and ways to try to salvage your collections. This interactive workshop will focus on water-based disasters and recovery, but we welcome anyone with an interest in a disaster response to attend. Part of this workshop will take place outdoors and around water, so please dress appropriately.

    Shaping Futures Together: Museums and Libraries as Community Collaborators (Mountain Region Workshop)

    Cost: $10 for NCMC Members/$15 for Non-Members
    Max 20 participants

    In this Lunch and Learn workshop, Katherine Calhoun Cutshall, Collection Manager of Buncombe County Special Collections, will share her knowledge and expertise in curating projects that engage directly with local communities. Drawing on her first-hand experience with community partnerships, Katherine will offer advice on best practices for building community-minded programming. From special events and social media features to inclusive collecting and genealogical research, discover how you can enrich your museum’s public offerings through community engagement. Bring your lunch and ideas, as the second half of this workshop will include a roundtable brainstorming session to share ideas and experiences. Coffee and light refreshments will also be served.

    Audio Description in Museums (Piedmont Region Workshop)

    Cost: $15 for NCMC Members/$20 for Non-Members
    Max 20 participants

    In this workshop, participants will learn from Felicia Ingram, Manager of Interpretation, Accessibility, and Diversity, North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA), accessibility accommodations, specifically audio description (AD) in museums. She will lead participants to ask are AD's in museums and why is it important? Then workshop participants will practice audio description basics and how it can be useful in the work environment. Participants will look at examples of how audio descriptions are used at the NCMA and other museums across the US. While audio description is intended for people with visual loss or blindness, everyone can benefit from AD. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Greensboro Science Center.
