Together We Can Do So Much: Cultivating Museum Volunteers


Join NCMC for a virtual workshop on February 18, 2026. Panelists from across the state will share their experiences building and maintaining robust volunteer programs. Don't know where to start recruiting volunteers? Need advice on how to work with youth volunteers or junior interpreters? Looking to strengthen your museum's current volunteer program? Panelists will provide their perspectives on these topics and more during this guided discussion session.

Cost: Free for members, $5 for non-members

Speakers


Mandy Gibson, Director, Historic Johnson Farm

For almost 8 years, Mandy Gibson has been the director of Historic Johnson Farm in Hendersonville, a historic site owned by the county school system. Prior to this, she worked at museums and historic sites in Raleigh and Richmond, VA. She has a bachelor's degree in American history from UNC-Chapel Hill and a master's in history from Virginia Commonwealth University.



Grayson Butler, Museum Educator, Tobacco Farm Life Museum

A North Carolina Native, Grayson Butler holds a BS in History, concentration in Public History, and an MA in History, concentration in Public History, both from Appalachian State University. She spent over five years at Duke Homestead State Historic Site where she cultivated a passion for hands-on learning, environmental history, and agricultural labor history. Grayson brought this passion to the Tobacco Farm Life Museum, where she now works as the museum educator. 



Margaret Mauldin, Assistant Head of School and Gallery Programs, Mint Museum

Margaret Mauldin is the current Assistant Head of School & Gallery Programs at the Mint Museum in Charlotte NC and Vice Chair of Professional Development for the North Carolina Museums Council. Maggie holds an undergraduate degree in Anthropology at Florida State University and a master's in Museum Studies from The George Washington University in DC. Her current role includes tour development, in-gallery engagement and programming, and managing the volunteer docent corp.
