AAM is the leading national resource for advocacy on the federal level. Through their annual Museum Advocacy Day (MAD) in late February, AAM coordinates visits from museum professionals that advocate for policy issues, increased funding for granting agencies such as the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
  • Small Museum Association (SMA)

Do you think that your museum is too small to advocate? The SMA is a great resource for how your institution can advocate as powerfully as any of the larger institutions. From common sense pointers to online resources, SMA is a great go to for smaller museums.

  • New England Museum Association (NEMA)
    www.nemanet.org/main
NEMA provides a wealth of resources for giving professionals the opportunity to speak up on behalf of museums. The NEMA tool kit provides links for tips on how to speak to legislators, resources for crafting impact statements and so much more.

  • National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA)
    www.nasaa-arts.org/advocacy
NASAA provides tools and research that helps develop support for the arts in all 50 states. They provide a great page for advocacy by providing resources, facts and figures and policy briefs.

  • Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC)
    www.astc.org/impact-initiatives/advocacy

ASTC is “dedicated to increasing the understanding of and engagement with science and technology among all people.” ASTC also provides resources for connecting to Congress, links to Museum Advocacy Day by AAM and a blog featuring ASTC’s latest policy actions.

NCMC in action in recent years!

For the past several years NCMC has participated in the American Alliance of Museum's Museums Advocacy Day to urge our country's Senators and Representatives to support museums and museum professionals through specific pieces of legislation. We are looking forward to doing it again at MAD in early 2023!
