Overview

Historic Rosedale is an historic site in Charlotte, NC, with an 1815 restored house, a reconstructed blacksmithy, and over 8 acres of gardens. It is owned and managed by the Historic Rosedale Foundation and its Board, governed by the Foundation Bylaws. The Board’s duty is oversight to ensure that the mission is accomplished and funded.

Rosedale has six paid part-time staff and several volunteers. Together with the Board, they develop programming, present Rosedale to the public, maintain the house and gardens in good condition, and raise funding to fulfill the site’s mission. The mission includes commitment to a full and open presentation of the lives of all people – black and white, enslaved and free – who lived and worked at Rosedale.

Historic Rosedale is seeking a full-time Executive Director (ED) to lead the site and staff and to expand fund-raising to support the site’s mission. The ED reports to the Board.

Duties

Leadership:
- Be the leader in managing the site and accomplishing Historic Rosedale’s mission.

Finances:
- Oversee Rosedale’s finances, including paying bills, managing bank accounts, managing the annual budget, handling staff payroll, and related tasks.
- Partner with the Treasurer to provide quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors and create annual budget.
- Take the lead in managing the financial health of the organization.

Development, Membership, and Fundraising:
- Function as the lead person for all development, marketing, and fundraising efforts.
- Partner with Board and staff to increase and sustain membership.
- Identify and apply for appropriate grants.
- Identify and solicit new financial support from individuals, foundations, and the business sector.
- Represent Historic Rosedale in the community.

Programming:
- Participate in and assist with development and implementation of regular and special programming at Historic Rosedale. This may include tours, special events, actual or virtual events, printed guides, online programming, and other projects.

Qualifications
Required:
- B.A. degree or higher from accredited college or university.
- Management experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in staff supervision, budgeting, and strategic planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse audiences, donors, staff, and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of historic preservation practices and relevant regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising/development/grant writing.

Preferred:
- B.A. or M.A. Degree, or academic experience, in History, Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, or related field.
- Management experience in historic sites, museums, or cultural institutions.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks.
