This outdoor workshop is focused on maintaining botanical materials within a museum collection. This workshop will be led by staff from the Museum of the Cherokee People, the North Carolina Botanical Garden and the Cherokee Historical Society. They will cover how to establish and maintain botanical collection pieces, how it can enhance an already robust artifact collection and how it can exemplify people and places from the past and present. This event is entirely outside. It starts with hands-on foraging and discussion of local plant life. Then experts will go over sustainable collecting and curatorial practices of botanical specimens. Attendees will get to create an herbarium specimen and take home a pressing kit. The workshop starts with a half mile walk on a dirt trail with various slopes in the landscape.
Registration fee includes a flower pressing kit for you to take home.
This workshop is sponsored by Glave and Holmes.
