Collections Management Workshop: Custom Storage Boxes and Moving Complex Collections with Ali Pizza, Markecia Koulesser, and Elizabeth Reighn.
This two-part, hands-on, Collections Workshop is for those interested in all levels of collections storage and moving. Gaston County Museum Assistant Director, Ali Pizza, and Collections Manager, Markecia Koulesser, will outline the steps they took to complete a large-scale collection move during Covid-19. They will review methods for cleaning, rehousing, and moving a variety of art and artifact materials with sustainability in mind. The workshop will include a chance for participants to create some of the packing and rehousing materials used during the Gaston County Museum move and will include in a relay-race style collections move with materials from the museum's education collection! In the second half of this workshop, participants will then work with Elizabeth Reighn, Chief Curator of Collections with NC State Historic Sites, on book enclosures and box making techniques. Elizabeth will review the materials needed, techniques for making custom boxes, and provide instructions for box making. This workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to make their own book enclosure to take with them. All supplies will be provided at the workshop.

Creating Museum-based Programs for People with Dementia and their Care Partners led by Arts and Minds.
This workshop draws on 15 years of Arts & Minds museum programming for people affected by dementia in New York City and on 10 years delivering successful training workshops nationally and internationally. Museums across the US are responding to the growing crisis of Alzheimer's in an aging society. In this workshop you will learn the basics of the Arts & Minds approach, share a program experience, and take the first steps in developing your own program for your museum.

The Power of Storytelling & Storykeeping for Inclusivity & Genuine Representation with Jade Cintrón Báez of ¡Looking Bilingüe!
An interactive talk and activity driven workshop centered around telling inclusive stories to help build storytelling skills with equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion in mind. Through this workshop and analysis, we will highlight creating more visibility and permanence for the purposely erased history of Latino/a/e/xs & BIPOC while being mindful of building community. At the end of this session, participants will have tangible ideas to take back to their respective places of work and study to put to action.
